Tom Collins, 2011

Albertus Magnus HS, Section 1 & 9

 

Coach led his teams to 400 wins in 24 years, winning 74% of all games. He won numerous League and Sectional titles on the way to participation in three State Championships. Named Coach of the Year 11 times by the Journal News and twice by the NY Daily News. He was proud to have influenced over 100 players to become coaches on collegiate, high school, and youth program levels. Many of his athletes played college basketball. Upon ending his tenure at Albertus Magnus, the gym was named in his honor. Tom was named Man of the Year by the Catholic Youth Organization,1983. He was inducted into two Halls of Fame, Albertus Magnus HS and Rockland County. He also received the Distinguished Service Award from his alma mater, Manhattan College, and was inducted into the Rockland County Historical Society as a notable member of the community. As he continued his career as AD of Pearl River School District, the school was honored with the 1st Section 1 NYSAA Sportsmanship Award. Tom was honored as NYSAA Athletic Director of 2010 and was bestowed the Lifetime Achievement Award 2011by St Thomas Aquinas College.
