Contributor to the Game
Coach Stan Evans was Head Basketball Coach for 22 of 28 years at Rome Free Academy, earning three Central Oneida League titles and one Section III Championship. He was an Assistant Coach at Hamilton College, SUNYIT, and LeMoyne College, where he coached five All-Americans. He was a five-time Empire State Games Men’s Scholastic Basketball coach, winning one medal each of gold, silver, and bronze; he also served for fifteen years as State Chairperson of Men’s Basketball for the Games. He coached for thirty years at the prestigious Five-Star Camp. He has officiated high school basketball as well as high school and college football for fifty years. He is a member of the Rome Sports Hall of Fame, the Section III Basketball Coaches and SUNYIT ‘Wildcat’ Hall of Fames. He is a charter member of the BCANY Board of Directors. He has been a guest lecturer at numerous basketball camps and clinics throughout New York State. The Rome School System renamed the Strough school gymnasium the Stan ‘Buddy’ Evans Courtin his honor.
