Richard “Doc” Sauers, 1992
State University at Albany
Sauers was the coach at the State University at Albany for 38 years. “Doc” led his teams to 702 wins, granting him the distinction of being the winningest Division III Coach in the nation. He was National Coach of the Year in 1985 and was East Regional Coach of the Year three times. He was Chairman of the NCAA Men’s Rules Committee and during his six year tenure on the committee played a key role in getting the three point shot in the rulebook. Sauers is a member of the Slippery Rock (his alma mater), University at Albany, and Capital District Halls of Fame.
