Frank Romeo, 2015

Comsewogue High School, Suffolk CC

 

Coach Frank Romeo led his teams to over 400 wins in 31 seasons.  His 24 teams at Comsewogue won 8 league titles and 1 Large School Section 11 Championship. From 1989-91 his teams won 62 of 67 games.  Frank served as a Coaches Assoc. Officer and helped organize and work at the Suffolk Top 100 Camps and the Suffolk HS Basketball Clinics.  He founded the Town of Brookhaven Summer Camp.  He was head coach of the Newsday Classic and also coached in the Empire State Games and Junior Olympics.  Coach Romeo was Section 11 Coach of the Year 4 times and League Coach of the Year 8 times.  At Suffolk CC his 7 teams won 20+ games in each of 6 seasons and in 1993 Region 15 Coach of the Year.  He was the 1st recipient of the Stony Brook U. Service Award and received numerous sportsmanship awards.  In 1988 he was NY Daily News Coach of the Year. Frank is a member of both the Massena HS and Comsewogue HS Halls of Fame.  The Section 11 Large School Tournament MVP Trophy was named after him.  In 1997 the Comsewogue HS Gymnasium was dedicated in his name.
