Starting in 1939-40 at Spencer Van Etten Coach Bob Hettler’s career spanned thirty-four years. At Amherst HS, his teams won or tied for the championship in twenty-five of his thirty-two years. His squad won five Sectional titles. He led his teams to over 500 wins, and might have been the first coach in New York State to win 500 games. His stint at Amherst was interrupted by service in the Navy during WW II. He is a legendary coach in the Buffalo area. He is a member of the Town of Amherst, Amherst HS and Greater Buffalo Athletic Halls of Fame.
